Tel Aviv, IL is preparing
The Tel Aviv region has rapidly emerged as a world-leading hub for digital automotive technology innovation. Sources of new inventions include homegrown startups like AV powerhouse Mobileye, a supplier of computer vision systems, as well as a constellation of new research centers set up by Japanese, American, and European automakers. Following Intel’s acquisition of Mobileye in early 2017, the Israeli government announced its intent to fast-track regulations that could accelerate AV testing nationwide.
For Tel Aviv, whose long tradition of car dependency dates back to its 1929 city plan, this innovation boom is coming just in time. After a decade-long rise in Israelis’ auto use by more than 50 percent, fully 80 percent of daily trips in Tel Aviv are now made by car.
