Stockholm, SE is piloting AVs
Stockholm launches a 6-month public pilot of driverless shuttles in mid-January 2018. Autopiloten, the first service of its kind in Sweden, will be managed out by Nobina, an operator of bus systems throughout the Nordic region, including Stockholm. The project is part of Test Site Stockholm, a research program based at KTH Royal Institute of Technology’s Integrated Transport Research Lab. Partners include the City of Stockholm, telecoms giant Ericsson, and many other organizations.
For the trial, the buses will transport the public between Kista Galleria and Victoria Tower on a 1.5 km route. In a future phase, officials hope to bring the AV shuttles into Barkarby City, a new district in in the western section of the Stockholm region. Touted as a “living city”, Barkarby City will have some 18,000 new homes, 140 neighborhoods and 10,000 new jobs.
