Eindhoven, NL is piloting AVs
Eindhoven is host to an ambitious effort to deploy electric AVs specifically designed for car sharing. Amber Mobility, a local startup, already provides an electric car share service to business customers in the region, using BMW i3 cars. In April 2017, the company announced its plans to begin testing a custom-built AV as part of its fleet by mid-2018. The heavily used vehicles are designed for an ultra-long lifespan of up to 1.5 million kilometers (930,000 miles). Eventually, Amber Mobility hopes to provide a subscription car share service for €33 ($37) per week. Eindhoven is also a participant in the MobilitymoveZ.NL project, an initiative of the North Brabant provincial government. Along with the neighboring cities of Helmond and Tilburg, Eindhoven is part of an Urban Mobility Testing Area for testing AV and other technologies.
